DECO1100 - Product Video - "TREASURE QUEST"

Research for constructing Personas

è Shows that technology is distracting children from exercising – they are playing to many video games & watching a lot of television
è A product that can catch the attention of the children is needed
è A lot of children are unhealthy
è Children don’t run around outside like they used to – therefore many are lacking exercise
è Children are supposed to get at least 1 hour of exercise a day

è The games that children play nowadays aren’t physical ones – they don’t require much movement/exercise

iPhone Treasure Hunter

Specs:
Target User Age Group:
The target age group for the game is between the ages of 8~15
Scale (size):
The scale of the product can be easily be adjusted by setting boundaries which players cannot venture beyond, and also by altering the number of supervising adults, treasures and players.
Skill development aim:
iPhone Treasure Hunter is a game designed to enhance the player’s general level of fitness. Due to the fact that the objective of the game is to find the treasure first, the players will be encouraged to run throughout the game in order to achieve first place.
Ideal context of use:
The game is ideal in a large outdoor environment with supervision by an adult. Such examples include schools, kindergartens, childcare and parks.
Technologies used:GPS, Speaker

Product Description:

What does this product do?
Whilst playing the game "iPhone Treasure Hunter", the product allows the players to locate the treasure by sending out vibrations as clues.
Why? What for?
The product is aimed to develop physical skills for young children whilst heightening their motivation for challenge and achievement.
What can people accomplish with it?
Determine the location of the treasure and in turn, complete the task
What physical action do users perform with it/on it?
Run/ walk around with it.
How do they interact with it?
The players will run/walk around the set location, trying to sense a change in the frequency of the vibration.
How does it respond or feedback?
The frequency of the vibration increases as the player gets closer and closer to the treasure. However if the player goes beyond certain distance from the supervisor’s device, their device will beep continuously.

Concrete Scenario of Use:

Before the game starts, the supervisor will attach a GPS marker on the object/s chosen to be the treasure and hide it. Then, the supervisor will hand each player/ team an iPhone or any other device compatible to play the game. When all this is completed, the supervisor will blow a whistle indicating the start of the game. The players/ teams will run/walk around the location searching for the treasure. At first, the device will produce a consistent, slow pattern of vibration. However as the player/team gets closer to the treasure, the rate (frequency) which the vibration occurs will increase. For safety concerns, when a player/ team goes beyond a certain distance from the supervisor, the alarm in their device will trigger producing constant beeping noise. The first player/ team to find the hidden treasure will win the game. When there are a large amount of players participating, there will be three treasures to determine first, second and third place based on the time in which they found the treasure.
